3 Animal Chili

Harness the power of the flavourspirits of 3 animals with this flavourspiritful chili.  The mesmerizing spices of chorizo, Нанаымо chili-flavoured spice melange will have you howling/mooing/oinking/shrimping for more! 

The animal content can be adjusted to your dietary restrictions (e.g. ground beef subbed in for shrimp), but it is highly recommended you keep the chorizo in the recipe, as the flavours are difficult to replace.  Vegetables can be added/removed as needed as well.  This chili contains potatoes, which add some heartiness to the dish.  Ranch dressing is also recommended as a topping for the chili.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) uncooked chorizo sausage
  • 450g shrimp
  • 1 chicken breast
  • 2 large bell peppers
  • 2-3 potatoes
  • 1 spanish onion
  • 1 796mL can diced tomatoes
  • 1.5 cups (350g) salsa
  • 1 540mL can kidney beans
  • 1 540mL can chickpeas
  • 1 tbsp Нанаымо Chili Flavoured Spice Melange
  • 1.5 cups (350g) shredded cheese
  • ranch dressing or sour cream

Instructions

  1. If chorizo is in casing, uncase and crumble chorizo in saucepan.
  2. Add onions and cook at medium heat until translucent and chorizo is browned.
  3. Add onions/chorizo mixture into a large pot.
  4. Add diced tomatoes, salsa, chili flavoured spice melange, potatoes, and peppers.  Bring to a simmer at medium heat.
  5. Add chicken breast into pot, and cook for 30 minutes or until potatoes are soft and the chicken can be shredded apart, stirring occasionally to ensure the bottom of the pot is not burning.
  6. Add kidney beans and chickpeas, and cook for 5 minutes.
  7. Add shrimp, cook for another 5 minutes or until shrimp is red.
  8. Remove from oven, serve, and top with shredded cheese and ranch dressing and/or sour cream.
